Gempearl is passionate about the environmental protection of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). As project managers of the CoTS Control Programs, Gempearl has direct involvement with many different research organisations with similar environmental goals. Through the CoTS Programs Gempearl works closely with research units, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, the Reef Rainforest Research Centre and the Australian Institute of Marine Science.
The data collected by Gempearl CoTS divers provides vital information to researchers to assist with the current and future protection of the GBR.
Gempearl provides live CoTS specimens to James Cook University and the Australian Institute of Marine Science for research into the Crown of Thorns Starfish. Gempearl is also involved in carrying out genetic sampling on the GBR.
